The State requires cities to update Safety Elements upon the revision of the Housing Element or Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, both of which were recently updated. The Health and Safety Element Update would include revised background content, updated mapping of hazards, updated policies and strategies to meet State law, a climate change vulnerability assessment, new adaptation and resilience policies and strategies, and an evacuation-constrained residential parcel analysis.
The Health and Safety Element of the General Plan: Community Vision for 2015-2040, last amended in 2005, with minor edits in 2015, addresses the effects of seismic and geologic hazards, flooding hazards, fire hazards, emergency preparedness, and other safety-related items in the City of Cupertino.
The Health and Safety Element is now available for public review!
The City invites community members to review the Public Review Draft Health and Safety Element and provide feedback. The public review period is open through Friday, March 13, 2026.
