Economic Development Committee - Special Notice of Vacancies

CITY OF CUPERTINO

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

SPECIAL NOTICE OF VACANCIES

Notice is hereby given that the City of Cupertino has five vacancies on the Economic Development Committee. The City Council voted to codify the Committee on April 15, 2025. Applications can be submitted via the Online Commission Application at www.cupertino.org/vacancies.  The application deadline is 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025. The City Council will conduct interviews beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16 and 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 17 (as needed).  For more details, please see the website or email the City Clerk's Office at cityclerk@cupertino.gov.

Eligibility Requirements: The Committee consists of nine (9) members appointed by the Council to overlapping four-year terms, comprised of: (1) two Councilmembers; (2) one representative from each of the following industry sectors - Technology, Retail, Hospitality, Education, and Commercial Real Estate; and (3) one member who is currently serving on the Sustainability Commission; and (4) one member who is currently serving on the Technology, Information, and Communications Commission. Industry sector representatives must work for an organization located within the City or be residents of the City, or both. None of the industry sector representative Committee Members shall be officials or employees of the City. No member of the Committee shall cohabit with, as defined by law, nor be related by blood or marriage, to any other member of the Committee, to the City Manager, or to any staff person(s) who may be assigned to assist this Committee.

The term of office for Committee Members shall be staggered with the initial appointment of five members to two-year terms and four members to four-year terms. Following the initial appointment, all members shall be appointed to four-year terms.

Powers and Functions: The powers and functions of the Committee shall be to serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council and to provide expertise and guidance on policy related to economic development. The Committee shall also actively promote Cupertino as a location of choice for current and prospective businesses. The Committee may involve itself in the following activities: Make recommendations to the City Council on a broad range of strategic matters broadly applicable to the City’ s economic development goals; Serve as an ambassador to shed a positive light on the City by sharing economic development resources and information to prospective businesses and stakeholders, thus positioning the City as a location of choice; and Encourage public/ private partnerships to further the City’ s economic development goals by identifying potential resources.

Commissioners will need to file Statements of Economic Interest upon assuming office, annually, and upon leaving office. Commissioners must take an ethics course every two years.

Housing Commission - Special Notice of Vacancies - Business Representative and Community Member Seats

HOUSING COMMISSION

SPECIAL NOTICE OF VACANCIES

Notice is hereby given that the City of Cupertino is accepting applications for unscheduled vacancies to fill one Community Member seat and one Business Representative seat on the Housing Commission. The vacancies occurred when Commissioner Yuyi He and Ryan Golze resigned. The remainder term of these vacancies expire on 1/30/27.  The vacancies are open until filled.  Applications can be submitted via the Online Commission Application at www.cupertino.org/vacancies.  For more details, please see the website or email the City Clerk's Office at cityclerk@cupertino.gov.

Eligibility Requirements: The Commission consists of five members appointed by the council to four-year terms.  One must be a representative from a Cupertino business and four community members. The representatives from a Cupertino business and the community members shall not be officials or employees of the City, nor cohabit with, as defined by law, nor be related by blood or marriage, to any member of the Commission, the City Manager or the staff person(s) assigned to this Commission. All members except the Cupertino business representative shall be City of Cupertino residents.

Powers and Functions: The powers and functions of the Housing Commission are to assist in developing housing policies and strategies, recommends policies for implementation and monitoring of affordable housing projects, help identify sources of funding for affordable housing and performs other advisory functions authorized by the City Council. Disclosure of certain financial interests, such as investments, businesses, and rental properties is required. Commissioners will need to file Statements of Economic Interest upon assuming office, annually, and upon leaving office. Commissioners must take an ethics course every two years.
