Transportation Permits for Commercial Trucks
California Vehicle Code (CVC) Sections 35100, 35250, 35400, and 35550 require oversized vehicles to obtain a Transportation Permit to travel within the City. An oversized vehicle is defined as one that exceeds legal limits: 8 feet 6 inches in width, 14 feet in height, 40 feet in length for a single vehicle (longer for combinations), and/or applicable weight limits (typically 80,000 pounds). Permits ensure proper routing, help avoid clearance conflicts, and may require pilot car escorts.
