Budget & Bites Workshop

Each year, the City hosts a community budget workshop to engage on a specific budget topic. This year’s session will focus on OpenGov, the City's financial transparency tool. Staff will provide an overview of OpenGov and showcase the different tools available to Cupertino residents. The session will also include an interactive segment where attendees will have an opportunity to participate in a scavenger hunt to try to find data in OpenGov for a chance to win prizes. There will be an opportunity for a Q&A session between staff and attendees.

Highlights of the OpenGov Financial Transparency Tool:

Residents may explore the City’s budget and historical finances through the City’s OpenGov financial transparency portal at cupertino.gov/opengov. The portal is beneficial because it provides residents with real-time data, improves transparency, builds public trust, and helps residents understand government finances. Residents can interactively explore the city’s financial data instead of reading lengthy and complicated financial documents. The portal allows users to monitor budgets, drill down into filters such as expenses or revenues by fund or department, and the option to download data for deeper analysis. The interactive visuals, filter options to drill down into, and clickable data make it easy for residents to digest.

Workshop Details:

First Part (5 to 5:30 p.m.): A presentation about OpenGov, offered in a hybrid format. You can join us either via Zoom webinar or in-person.
Second Part (5:30 to 6:30 p.m.): An interactive segment and Q&A session, held in-person only at Community Hall.
