Summer Workshops

New Offerings for Summer 2026!
Middle School Bike Skills workshops prepare rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to bike to middle school and beyond. The original course teaches students and their parent or guardian safe biking fundamentals. New this year is a sequel which teaches students how to adapt those skills to stay safe while riding an e-bike and a third course teaching students the basics of maintaining and doing simple repairs on their own bikes.

MSBS 101
Participants will learn about basic traffic laws, proper hand signals, safe road positioning, navigating intersections, and how to avoid the most common types of bike crashes. The program includes a classroom safety presentation, on-bike skills drills on a blacktop, and a group ride through the neighborhood to put the lessons and skills into practice. It is geared towards regular bicycles, however e-bikes are welcome if they keep to regular bike speeds and behaviors.
One parent or guardian is required to attend the class with each student. Student and guardian both need to bring a bike and helmet.

8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
$170 registration fee covers the cost of both the student and their guardian
MSBS 102
Participants will learn how to apply the skills learned in MSBS 101 to stay safe on e-bikes, which are typically faster, heavier, and harder to steer and stop. The program includes an on-bike skills drills on a blacktop, and a group ride through the neighborhood to put the lessons and skills into practice. MSBS 101 (or the online Smart Cycling Course from the League of American Bicyclists) is a required pre-requisite. Participants must have legal e-bikes.
A parent or guardian is recommended but not required. Student and guardian both need to bring a bike and helmet.

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
$150 registration fee covers the cost of the both the student and their guardian
MSBS 103
Participants will learn the ABC Quick Check and how to apply it to their own bike. They will also learn to perform simple repairs to these basic components using their own bikes.
One bike per registration.
June 13 or August 27
1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
$170 registration fee covers the cost of the student
