Block Leader Community Events

Block Leader Community Events

Apply to become a Block Leader through the Volunteer Portal!

Use this map to see if there is a Block Leader in your neighborhood!

Community events are any opportunity for the residents of the neighborhood to meet with their Block Leader and their neighbors. This can be a large event, such as a Block Party with a City permit or a neighborhood beautification day, or a smaller event, like a backyard meeting about a neighborhood concern or meet up at a local business or park.

To coordinate specific activities or guests for an event, contact the Program Coordinator at MartaD@cupertino.gov

Open the accordions below to see some different options for community events

I want to host a traditional Block Party

To shut down your street, you will need a Block Party permit. Active Block Leaders are also eligible to apply for the Block Party Grant. As part of the permit application, you will be able to request a visit from Santa Clara County Fire Department, Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, and the Cupertino Office of Emergency Management. To combine a Block Party with another kind of event, reach out to the Program Coordinator at MartaD@cupertino.gov.

I want to have a presentation

Presentations are a great way to generate interest from neighbors or option for HOA meetings.

The currently offered presentations are

  • Build a Kit
  • Personal Emergency Preparedness
  • Neighborhood Watch
  • Stop Senior Scams

To request a presentation, contact the Program Coordinator at MartaD@cupertino.gov.

More presentations coming soon!

I want to have something small but social

A small gathering can be a good option for your yearly community event. Consider hosting a dessert potluck in your driveway or nearby park, or meet with your neighbors at a local business. This can be a great way to strengthen community ties or discuss a neighborhood issue/concern.

To invite City staff or elected representatives to your event, reach out to the Program Coordinator at MartaD@cupertino.gov.

I don't have room to host - is there another option?

If you do not have space in your home for a community gathering, and you are not interested in a Block Party Permit, consider meeting at a local park or business. Another option is to volunteer with your neighbors for a creek clean up, or tour a local fire station.

To invite City staff or elected representatives, or to request a fire station tour contact the Program Coordinator at MartaD@cupertino.gov
