On June 21, 2026, Cupertino City Council voted to place the following local measure on the November 2026 ballot for voters to consider.

Parks and Open Space Protection Measure

The Parks and Open Space Protection Measure would require voter approval before certain changes could be made to designated parks, parkland, and open space. The measure would require two-thirds voter approval for:

  • Any attempt to rezone parks, parkland, or open space in the City for residential, commercial, or industrial uses; and
  • Any proposal for residential, commercial, or industrial development in parks, parkland, or open space.

On July 21, 2026, the City Council approved this measure to be placed on the November 3 General Election ballot.
