The City’s commissions serve as advisory bodies to the City Council by considering public input and providing recommendations to the Council. Cupertino residents are encouraged to apply for commissions that currently have vacancies. Commissions with vacancies include: Economic Development Committee, (one representative from each of the following industry sectors - Technology, Retail, Hospitality, Education, and Commercial Real Estate), Housing Commission (Business Representative), and Public Safety Commission.

The application deadline is 9 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2025. Council will conduct interviews beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16 and/or at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 17 (as needed).

New Applications: Each Commission has its own application. The commission specific applications can be submitted online at cupertino.gov/vacancies.

About the Commissions

Economic Development Committee is looking for representatives from each of the following industry sectors--Technology, Retail, Hospitality, Education, and Commercial Real Estate. Industry sector representatives must work for an organization located within Cupertino or be residents of the City, or both. The Committee works to market the City in a positive light to attract and retain businesses, foster public and private partnerships through new and existing business and community relationships, collaborate with local businesses to identify and eliminate any barriers to retention or growth, and advise City Council on economic development goals that maintain the quality of life in Cupertino.

Housing Commission is looking to fill the Cupertino Business Representative unscheduled vacancy with a term expiring January 30, 2027. The individual must represent a Cupertino business but does not need to live in Cupertino. Housing Commission assists in developing housing policies and strategies, recommends policies for implementation and monitoring of affordable housing projects, help identify sources of funding for affordable housing and performs other advisory functions authorized by the City Council.

Public Safety Commission is looking to fill an unscheduled vacancy with a term expiring January 30, 2027. The individual must live in Cupertino. The Commission advises the City Council on all areas relating to public safety, traffic, police, fire and other matters relating to the foregoing.
