RV/Oversized Vehicle Parking Permit Request
Published on October 20, 2025
The Cupertino City Council adopted an ordinance that prohibits oversize vehicles, including Recreational Vehicles (RVs), from parking on City streets overnight without a permit. The ordinance aims to improve traffic safety, visibility, and neighborhood access. It will take effect starting October 17, 2025.
An oversized vehicle is any vehicle, or combination of vehicles, that measures over 22 feet in length, or is over six feet in width and seven feet in height. For example, any camp trailer, camper, fifth wheel travel trailer, house car, mobile home, trailer coach, or recreational vehicle would be considered an oversized vehicle.
Residents may obtain up to 20 oversized vehicle parking permits per calendar year. A permit allows parking during the prohibited period, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and is valid for 72 hours. Permits must be displayed visibly on the dashboard of the authorized vehicle. The oversized vehicle must be moved a minimum of 1,500 feet after the expiration of the permit, and may not repark within 1,500 feet of the original space for the following 72 hours, even with a new parking permit.
Residents who need to park an oversized vehicle on a City street overnight may obtain a temporary permit to do so on the City's website here:
