Cupertino Earns Higher CRS Rating, Increasing Flood Insurance Savings
Published on March 17, 2025
Cupertino is taking a step forward in its flood risk management efforts, earning a higher rating in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Community Rating System (CRS) Program. This voluntary program rewards communities for proactive floodplain management, resulting in reduced flood insurance costs for residents and businesses.
Following a comprehensive five-year review by FEMA, the City's CRS rating has improved from Class 7 to Class 6. This achievement highlights the City’s commitment to strengthening flood management practices and increasing community resilience. As a result, starting October 1, property owners in Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs) will receive a 20% discount on their flood insurance premiums, while those outside SFHAs will benefit from a 10% discount.
The City of Cupertino remains dedicated to safeguarding its community against flood risks and ensuring financial savings for residents through strategic planning and sustainable flood management initiatives.
